It is no coincidence that the generation that was able to pass the Civil Rights Act, the Environmental Protection Act, over turn segregation, tax the rich, and had the most powerful unions, were also the most religious.
And it's also no coincidence that as religiousness in our society has declined, it's become ever more difficult to get similar big progressive changes.
