I am not wholly opposed to the concept of UBI. It's not only for the benefit of layabouts nor societal burdens. We could eliminate a vast quantity of entitlements and roll everything into a flat UBI, ergo it would be a lot more equitable than the current system (which does, actually, encourage deadbeat-ism and degeneracy via the criteria for receiving benefits). Theoretically, it would be economically beneficial as it'd provide capital to consumers by which they could participate in the economy (buying things, increasing business, increase business growth, et al..)---people not having money is economically tragic for capitalist system (in theory) because it means reduced economic activity, shrinkage of the economy, layoffs, etc..
