Decades of my life wasted on Apple computers and the Macintosh.

Not that I am opposed to commercial proprietary tech entirely.

But whatever the timeline is where we had laptop Amigas is doubtlessly better than this one and I am not on that timeline. ;(

I'll settle for some RISC-V hardware in a portable form factor (which kind of exists, sort of, I think? I just don't own any of that RISC-V hardware, yet) and maybe some L4 microkernel variant with a bunch of decent ports/packages from Nix or something maybe?

I don't have that either though. ;(

I did see that SiFive released a new RISC-V board recently (https://www.sifive.com/boards/hifive-premier-p550), it's even priced lower ($399 for 16GB RAM version $499 for the 32GB of RAM version [only 10 boards left in stock as I write this which is fewer than when I checked it the other day]) than the HiFive Unmatched that I paid for/pre-ordered and never received, with better specs! With Ubuntu preinstalled? Ungh, definitely not my cup of tea.

It's not a wise financial decision for me at the moment given it's intended to be another desktop style system and my lifestyle is currently mobile. ;-/ Also, does anyone know whether the SiFive P550 CPU core supports the recently ratified RVA23?

Nevermind, it doesn't adhere to RVA23 or even RVA22.

At least, not according to the roadmap in this PDF: https://hc2023.hotchips.org/assets/program/conference/day1/CPU2/P870%20for%20Hot%20Chips%20-%20FInal.pdf

Seems as if SiFive won't have RVA23 cores until P670 and P470 apparently? As well as the P870 and P870-A? No idea when those will be available in a product, though no doubt those cores can already be licensed now for those who want to integrate them into their own hardware designs?

Not to mention nothing is a wise financial decision for me right now given my debts and homelessness. I eat and have wasted way too much money on car repairs and maintenance in 2024; but don't have much to show for it.

It's must be neat to play around with gadgets though. Gosh knows I would like some more of that in my existence.

Rather than putting together hardware and software I hate for employers who pay and treat me terribly; I have had decades of that.

The irony is, decades of my life wasted on Apple Computers and the Macintosh in particular, but I have administered and improved many worse systems.

Far fewer better ones.

Yet, I know better exists. Or at least existed.

I think it can exist again.

Just doesn't seem within my reach presently.
