Since I have a dormant Instagram account I can use to get onto Threads, I downloaded the app and went over to take a look. 'Dumpster fire' is an understatement! Threads' main (and only) feed is a firehose of everything on the app, with no way to filter it. It's like FB's newsfeed on its most vacuuous day ever, but faster and with even less actual content. Scary!
Threads would be an embarrassing alpha release. It's not a serious threat to Twitter (or Mastodon) as it stands.
