3/ To clarify: the glow you see in my photograph is due to the lasers passing through clouds. The artificial "stars" are much further up in the atmosphere, as you can see for instance in my banner image here on Mastodon, where I photographed the lasers pointing towards the Large Magellanic Cloud.
