I personally think that emancipation does have merit in various circumstances (abusive relationship from a parent, child is only a few years shy of 18, obviously more of an adult than his/her guardians, etc). All in all though, there is no rush, and I'm certain most minors would agree since there's lots of perks to being a legally-recognized minor anyway (pranks notwithstanding. But you have a fair point about it having been gamed in the past by the left to justify heinous things. It's by no means a perfect solution.
With that said, I'm mostly interested in pointing out how it's conveniently omitted by the left to avoid suspicion of their childrens' abuse, which is clearly the case here.
