I've been into cryptography since 1997. Hacked the Iomega Zip drives. Then implemented PGP/GPG at my father's company.
I reckon it's great to have the government involved as it brings everyone into the fold. You and me were privileged to be exposed to cryptography as kids. Many didn't even have access to computers. Heck many didn't even have electricity. Now people will hear more about it and dare to explore.
