Watching as Mexico's senate is likely to pass a sweeping reform to the judicial system, basically switching from a system of appointing judges to one of electing them, I did a brief search for pros and cons of each approach and found this enlightening 2017 summary of feedback from US judges on the topic. A complicated issue with no easy answer... which leads me to conclude that AMLO's reform is overly simplistic and dangerous.
