Government exists everywhere and always has except when there was unclaimed wilderness. I agree that everything it does needs to be kept in check because when left alone it always takes liberty. But it is not kept in check thanks to the state of journalism that is busy flattering each other and the government they think they want that takes guns, takes our money, treats it like free unlimited money, etc
