Willingness to live alongside others is a basic requirement of morality. So is the acceptance of limits on permissible uses of coercion. The only serious alternative to liberalism is pacifism (which prohibits all coercion).
If many people in the US and Europe are intolerant, that is not a reality to be accepted. That is a problem to be solved.
