For anyone who wants a quick overview:
If we assume a simple 9-pin impact printer, you have 8 pins for letters, 1 pin for underline, 1 "pin height" between lines. Effectively 10 "pins" per line.
66 lines per page, 11-inch page .. the math is 60 DPI.
If 60 DPI horizontal, at 10 CPI and 8½ inches wide .. that's 6 "dots" per character. But 1 for for "spacing" .. so 5x8 per letter, 1px spacing at right and bottom.
