I remember getting dogpiled a ton trying to talk about "the economy" prior the the election. People kept insisting it was "the best economy of our lives", or that "every economic indicator is showing the economy has improved under Biden".
But everyone seemed to be missing the forest for the trees. No amount of economic indicators changes the fact that If I make an income, and inflation causes everything to get 20% more expensive, and my income does not increase by 20% or more, I have less money. That's really basic math.
The economic indicators were capturing abstract metrics like real mean disposable income trends Or trying to offset drops in purchasing power with increases in asset valuation.
But the problem was a super simple one: If economic indicators indicate things are getting better for the mean American, so what? Does that mean the mean American is now guaranteed to vote Democrat? What's to say those mean Americans aren't in positions where they'd benefit from Republican tax cuts and policies focused on deregulating corporations?
Essentially all this "vibecession" and "best economy of our time" nonsense did was alienate millions upon millions of voters who didn't fit the statistics, resulting in them drifting towards Trump. Meanwhile the party pandered towards imaginary voters they made up based on statistical averages and means. They threw this election so fucking hard and I got literally dogpiled every time I tried to bring it up.
