after about 5 days or so testing KDE Plasma 6 on my ThinkPad X280, i swapped back to my Gnome SSD to compare the experience.. ..the X280 has a great touchpad, and the Gnome touchpad gestures are more intuitive and feel much smoother (better 1:1).. ..so based on primarily being an i3wm user, i would vote for Gnome's simplicity over Plasma's complexity.. ..but neither one would make me switch away from just using a standalone WM or Xfce
