The Old Ladies had Good Intentions

A group of old women just stopped by. They were offering free, in-home bible studies. They were very quaint, polite, and seemed genuinely interested.
I know, as I used to go door-to-door myself, it was an "inroad" to get your foot in the door, to "save souls."
At one point, I had to interrupt them momentarily and explain to Maverick that everything was all right. "Shhhhhh....I got it. Just give me a minute, please." Maverick stopped barking, and the women were amazed.
They were surprised to learn that hijab is a concept and the headscarf was just part of it, that there were mosques in the city, and that a woman doesn't have to attend the mosque, and so on.
One of them looked almost like one of my late grandmothers. I didn't want them to continue standing in the sun wearing their formal, polyester Sunday best, so I sent them on their way.
As I closed the door, Maverick kept guarding it. He has medical issues and seems to fall ill more than other dogs, but he's very intelligent and very quick to learn.
Later, he handed me the toy I made him last night, consisting of old socks tied together. He figured a good old game of tug-of-war would lift my spirits. He doesn't realize how much I miss my grandmothers.
