IMO, it is a conspiracy to call cryptographic secret keys "private", to muddle the definition of secret (known only to a privileged party) versus private (almost always involving at least two privileged parties).

A bedroom is private, and yet most adults share it with someone.

A piece of land with a fence around it often has a sign saying "private property".

Who shares their cryptographic secret keys with their partner, or anyone? Anyone?

It's kinda against the whole principle.

What's inside your brain is secret. What's between you and your wife/business partners is private. The special knowledge of your company - yes, private, not really secret.

I know that the two have overlapping meanings but it's not "secret property", it's "private property".

It's a secret key. It's secret because you don't tell anyone. As soon as someone else knows it, it's either private or public.

It may sound like I am trying to make definitions where there isn't one, but there really needs to be a distinction since what's in my brain is secret, what I tell my friends is private, and what I post on the internet is public.

If my secrets are not kept only to me, then how does anyone know if I'm behind the actions related to the use of the secrets?

How many stories have you heard about people abusing the ability to access a shared secret?

Why does Shamir's Secret Shares scheme have the qualifier "share" in it, if it isn't because the individual parts are still secret?
