So, before Launchpad was added in macOS 10.7, was the "Applications" section of Finder the normal way to find and open an application that isn't in the dock?
The way Mac .app bundles work seems kind of neat, actually. I guess AppImage and Zero Install are based on a similar model. But now Apple (and Microsoft) is trying to shift to an app store model, while hiding the filesystem from the user. As is the norm on mobile.
