Similar story but a couple years older, different state, no family support, and no where to go after the maternity home. Same problem with the stigma, the social otherization and a large maternity home of 50 girls not allowed to attend public school. The cook at the home requested for me to work in the kitchen with her so I learned to cook for large groups and still tend to make more than is needed. I gave my child up for adoption as I didn't know where I would be in a year or two from then nor how I would survive, and so they wouldn't have to face the stigma of their birth circumstance while growing up. I also don't know what happened to most of the other girls. It is reassuring to hear your story though with the hope that some of them ended up with blessed lives. Thank you so much for sharing your story.
