this was written by someone who believes civics class fairy tales and has no direct experience with what happens to people whose speech actually threatens the ruling class. Sure, the US doesn't have laws explicitly forbidding dissenting speech, but we have more than enough laws so that everyone breaks some of them and can then be selectively prosecuted. I see this *constantly* in Los Angeles. Here's an example that came out just two days ago:
