I agree. I have self hosted Invidious which lets me watch YouTube ad free and it also works with sponsor block which blocks most in video sponsor ads. The other alternative is to use Piped. Less tracking too. There are some public instances running

https://piped.video/Similarly there’s Hyperpipe and other alternatives for music.
