When I face such issues, the first thing I think about: I'm stupid.
The second thought: It's a bug in a compiler.
The third one: Maybe compiler implementation is correct and I'm not stupid, but just misunderstand something.
The hardest part about Scheme at the moment for me is: How the fuck top-level defines work?
