You provide lots of great content so I'm sorry for longer answer but I'm trying to give back a little here.
Keep in mind that usually the older the movie the more time tested it is ie. If somebody still remembers it after 20, 30, 40 years then it's very good proof there really is something there.
I read through the thread and there are lots of good suggestions already so I can't in this moment without researching my library provide good answer.
Also narrowing down your favourite genre would help a lot (or at least saying what you don't particularly like as genre).
If you would allow longer timeframe here are some of my all time favourites:
Idiocracy (2006), smart comedy about the end of the World
Office Space (1999), smart IT comedy from pre Y2K time
Margin Call (2011), extremely good drama from financial world
Airplane! (1980), insanely good silly comedy which I never heard of until recently but was somewhere listed on top as laughs-per-minute basis, I do agree it was lots of short giggles.
