The auto-generated CRAN citations now list both the version number and the DOI.\n\nSo while we chose the version-independent DOI in order to accumulate citations most easily, I think it should help to some degree with reproducible research as well.\n\nBut you are correct that unique identification of the specific version was not the top priority for the DOIs.",
