Spooky October PSA: if you don't already own a Drywall Saw, buy one. It's the greatest thing ever for cutting the tops of pumpkins open like a hot knife through butter. It is super super sharp and not something to give to your little kids, but you will make short work of starting any pumpkin this month, just cut the top circle at a ~60º angle so the top can't ever fall in.
You can also quickly make basic jack o lantern shapes with it too, just as fast.
