My life has been very strange and cruel, and I think it taught me agency in the face of all the things that have happened to me; since without agency I would have already drowned. My “if only,” is dependent upon that agency, but I would have never learnt it in a different scenario. So it’s a fruitless “if only,” as they all are.

You are right though that everything is done in small steps, one at a time. My life has had a positive trajectory ever since I was old enough to influence it at all. It is frustrating to start in such a deep hole and to have all my positive change amount to a single taste of fresh air, but nothing in life comes quickly. That single taste is a stepping stone in a very long journey.

Humans have always been small in the scheme of the world, but nowadays we are also small in the scheme of our own lives. We are pushed and pulled around; and we seek our necessities from people far away from us, or who have no connection to us. The people who I seek to for help never give it, so I try an exercise myself in all the small ways I can. By focusing on how I treat my body and mind. This is the only thing I have had much success with.
