When dogs are showing lots of teeth while being antagonistic or aggressive, they are scared and defensive. It is pretty easy to de-escalate by giving them space. When you can't see their teeth when things are intense, it is offensive and more dangerous. Like if they are barking in an unfriendly way and they cover their teeth by making a little "O" with their lips pushed forward (like when you say "woo woo woo" and your lips go forward). If I can see lots of teeth-- especially the bigger back teeth-- it is better. 😅 Closed, tight mouths are not good. When they are rough-housing with other dogs, make sure you can see those chompers in open mouths.
