Its not often I say something to defend police, but I have spoken to a few officers who find it demoralising that in their experience most women who report intimate partner violence are:
(a) Seeking to use police to gain power over their partner
(b) Not actually going to leave, often because they don't want to work
(c) Often violent against their intimate partner themselves, just less effectively.
