Fabio Manganiello on Nostr: Good riddance. Bird (former MessageBird) is leaving the Netherlands. And the CEO ...

Good riddance.

Bird (former MessageBird) is leaving the Netherlands.

And the CEO apparently went full MAGA on the reasons why:

“In the US, people in tech work 10, 12 hours a day, seven days a week and are rewarded for it. People can lose their job overnight but find a new one quickly as well. But that goes against the Dutch and European working culture.”

In other words, Bird’s definition of “competitiveness” is being able to exploit people, turning their jobs into their only activities in life, destroying their work-life balance, firing them overnight when you don’t need them anymore, and being in a country that allows you to do all of that.

He also praised Musk for his policy of asking employees to prepare a weekly report of what they have achieved in the previous week, and in case they achieved nothing they should consider themselves redundant.

So if you happen to have family/health issues, or your project is held back by upstream blockers, you should just be ready to give up on your source of income.

And he also blamed the high taxes on big bonuses (“I cannot reward our people like our competitors can”), basically demanding the right to give millionaire rewards to folks who give up on their lives in order to encourage other employees to do the same.

I’ve been approached by Bird recruiters many times in the past. Reading what their CEO says, I’m very happy that I turned down all the offers from a company run by a genuine sociopath who doesn’t belong to Europe.
