If you've done the tracking & engineering it's even harder to hear it impartially. It was a few years ago I noticed you don't actually hear the drums on some classic rock records. They're there, but in truth a bass, vocal, guitar is on top of them. I've spent a lot of time asking why the drums don't cut through only to notice they don't always have to & often never did. I dunno 🙉
