Today marks what would have been the 95th birthday of Fred Cuming RA, my spiritual master 🙏
Fred has captured the essence of this iconic promenade, detailing scattered tourists and idling gondolas. He returns to the majesty of sea and land, uniting them through delicate turquoises and dusty charcoals to evoke a Venice that deviates from typical studies, presenting instead an overcast brooding atmosphere, with moody clouds and unsettled skies. Cuming’s composition sensitively balances the gothic masterpiece of the palace with the beauty of the Venice lagoon.
