I don’t mind it too much as a reader, because I figure the book has been “translated” into a contemporary Earth language for my reading pleasure, and they surely would have had slangy equivalents.
On the other hand, I got annoyed with the use of “stalled out” in a car-less fantasy setting. Certainly wouldn’t like German Shepherd or pavlova or other cultural formulations.
