If you're in a pinch, and have to use the no-butter puff pastry, you can improve it by brushing melted butter on both sides of the cold pastry before forming it into whatever you're making.
It won't be as good as full-butter pastry, but it's definitely better than the no-butter pastry in its natural state.
Trying to roll in extra butter won't work. I tried. But brushing a thin layer of it on the pastry does.
