The Aipysurus laevis or Olive-Brown Sea Snake, also referred to as the Golden Sea Snake is native to the Indo-Pacific, Northwestern Atlantic, and Northeastern Pacific Oceans. Described by French naturalist, Bernard-Germain-Étienne de La Ville-sur-Illon, comte de Lacépède in 1804, they’re the world’s most lethal species of sea snake. They cause severe tissue damage, internal bleeding, paralysis, and severe respiratory collapse, all of which are difficult to treat, even with access to antivenom! 😨
