So at a certain point at my career at Apple my manager was this director whose first name rhymes with Prat. Everyone despised him as he was a raging chauvinist and a fragile narcissist who needed every conversation and meeting to be about him. He once told me with incredible candor that he had been investigated by HR 57 times and cleared each time of allegations of wrongdoing.
I remember thinking--where there is smoke there is fire.
