Star Wars: Shadow Fall, the second book in the Alphabet Squadron saga, is overall not a fantastic read.
Set sometime after Return of the Jedi, it follows a cast of characters—some from Operation Cinder, others from key battles in the original trilogy—who are all dealing with trauma. The problem? Instead of progressing, they just relive the same trauma over and over. And by the end, a major event completely undercuts the entire journey, making the 11-hour listen feel pointless.
Like the first book, this one lacks truly likable characters for me. The battles are well done, and the story tries to be engaging and insightful, but between the pacing, the way events unfold, and the overall tone, I just couldn’t connect with it.
That said, I’ve started the third book, and it kicks off strong—so I’m hopeful for a solid conclusion. But Shadow Fall? A 2/5
