Let us take a moment today to remember Major Alexis Casdagli, son of a Greek family, who fought in the British forces in WW2, before he was taken prisoner by the Nazis. To pass the time as a POW he worked on embroidery samplers, one of which his captors were so impressed by they hung it up on display. Not noticing that the stitches in the image borders spelled out in Morse code "God Save the King" and "Fuck Hitler."
A fibre arts legend. 🧵🪡
