In the "Everything is turning to crap” department, I just visited a website that was one of the gems of the Web: Les Cowley's atmospheric optics site. It was a hand-made site with a definite Web 1.0 look, but packed full of useful, well-organized information.

Now it's just a blog filled with what looks a lot like AI-generated text.

I assumed it was a simple takeover -- registration lapsed, scammer took the domain -- but the old site is still accessible as a subdomain. What's going on here?
