I connected to germany on a different device and it didn't happen. So now I'm curious. I go back and look at the server I connected to and my vpn has a feature where it will route you through tor and apparently that's what I was connected to without knowing it. Also if you've ever used tor you know there are a metric fuckton of exit nodes in germany for some reason. Any tor connection has a high chance of routing through there.
So, without knowing it I was actually connecting to youtube via tor. From my understanding a lot of islamic countries use tor to connect to normie internet. So this is youtube associating tor exit nodes with muslim traffic. That's a lot less funny but a lot more interesting.
