I think the article is aimed at the people documented in the research -- which is to say, a fairly large chunk of the population, across pretty varied demographics
It's clearly front and center in Trump's base -- hence his whole appeal to restoring a supposedly glorious past
It certainly doesn't match my sense of the past
But it isn't *merely* embittered older white folks, I don't think
