My grandfather was involved in all sorts of local political corruption and I heard from my dad that a bunch of cattle which the government had been experimenting on and the state had explicitly instructed local officials to DESTROY AND BURN were instead butchered and sold to the public to line a few cronies pockets. God only fucking knows what those people consumed. I'm sure that's still happening all over the place.
