This is out of my wheelhouse, and not knowing what you are using to make the follow...mobile, web, chrome, firefox, API, terminal, etc., takes it even further out of it.
If it through a browser, it could be your browser mucking it up. Close and restart your browser, log out and then back in and do a hard page refresh, etc. Log in incognito mode and see if you can follow...
