One of my fondest memory is when we lived in Italy not too far from Venice. We had our best friends visiting and the husbands took the kids skiing while my friend and I went to Venice during carnival time. It was magical. Pro tip: try to go during the week, the weekends get too crowdy and there is plenty to see even during the week.
