Seven years ago, the organizers of Madagascar’s largest jazz festival announced online that the festival was cancelled, since the government had just banned all public gatherings due to the plague spreading out of control in urban areas.
By the time the epidemic petered out several months later, 2575 people had caught the plague, of which 221 died.
