This feels like another one of those "we told you this would happen and you all said we were being paranoid and then oh look, it happened just like we said it would" moments.
Back when I was an academic, I used to try to tell my oh-so-progressive colleagues that I didn't feel safe giving talks in public anymore and didn't feel safe using bathrooms anymore, because of the growing anti-trans movement worldwide. They all looked at me like I was a raving lunatic.
Naturally, I was right about this because, I was actually paying attention. Equally unsurprisingly, now that I've been driven out of academia, no-one has ever admitted "yeah sorry, we should have said something or done something". Instead they all just stopped talking to me once I was no longer useful to them
