I don't know if Thomas was written by Thomas or not. It might have been. There are some sayings in there that seem to make a lot of sense as a source for parables in the Synoptics.
But I do trust that, providentially, if it was inspired Scripture, Christians would ultimately have acknowledged and preserved it as such.
