Hermann Minkowski was born #OTD in 1864.

He created & developed the geometry of numbers & elements of convex geometry, & used geometrical methods to solve problems in number theory, mathematical physics, & the theory of relativity. He is best known for his foundational work describing space & time as a four-dimensional space - "Minkowski spacetime", which facilitated geometric interpretations of Albert Einstein's special theory of relativity (1905).
