I often wonder why people who I would think should value their privacy/security more than me (average Joe) use mainstream devices that are known to spy on their users. I understand many are not technically competent enough to use alternatives, but I’m talking about ppl who are way more technically capable than me.
Like why is jack (npub1sg6…f63m) or jack mallers (npub1cn4…3vle) using an iPhone and not GrapheneOS (npub1235…0ht5) ? Why are folks using Mac’s and not Linux or bsd?
Is it just that the experience is so degraded/not seamless that it isn’t worth their time (which I understand is quite valuable)? Is it just being stuck in default behavior? Switching cost just too high mentally? Or are the folks migrating to these things just tin foil hat wearers paranoid about nothing?
I know folks like sethforprivacy (npub1tr4…2y5g) and ODELL (npub1qny…95gx) are using such tools but is it because they just like to tinker or because while the switching costs are high, those are also part of their brand/business?
