Here's my speculation:
If you think of yourself, your life and your capacities to do as something that can be enclosed in a box, you and everything you do will be replicated and automated at some point. The same goes for a company viewing their workers as machines, where their purpose is to be a machine - doing the same repetitive tasks over and over again, even if they are "intelligent" tasks, that company itself will be automated.

On the other hand, if you view yours and others' capacity as something sprawling out, reaching, fractal. Something that not only explores, but continuously digs channels to which there is more opportunity for exploration - that is what wins, at all scales. AI can automate your current task, and if your employer doesn't see you as someone to go further with that automation they'll lose the long game because of the other companies that will combine AI with their existing workforce.
