Eric Zhang 2: Episode 1 on Nostr: For whatever reason I feel like I have to sperg about the campaign in this game and ...
For whatever reason I feel like I have to sperg about the campaign in this game and honestly the campaign is just bad. It's not bad in a way that it's hilariously bad but it's really mediocre and boring. I haven't finished the campaign yet but playing the campaign so far has given me nothing but pain and suffering. It's literally torture. It's making me question the very thing I am doing and why I bought this game in the first place.
The campaign is about a Chinese civil war where America is involved somehow. You perform your operations with 2 or 3 soldiers that I can't even remember because you feel absolutely no connection with your character and the people around you whatsoever. None of the characters in the campaign has any characteristics that stand out.
The missions don't really make sense. In one mission you're rescuing a VIP for basically no reason and in the next you end up on a ship full of refugees with everyone complaining about the amount of refugees on board somehow. Heck, you don't even know why you, as an American, are involved in a Chinese civil war in the first place.
AI is dumb as fuck in this game. Combat segments are dead silent, you don't hear your allies shouting something like "TANGOS FROM THE EAST" or something like that, in fact you have to actually specify the targets you wish your allies engage by pressing Q and even then your allies literally do no damage to the enemies whatsoever. I completed most of the segments by literally camping with a Scout behind an ammo crate which is everywhere in this game. There's also no music during the entire campaign making the whole thing really anti-climatic.
The Battlefield™ 4 campaign also features a points system so you can show off to your friend how you're much better then he is at the Battlefield™ 4 campaign. There are also bronze, silver and gold medals in the campaign which means absolutely nothing because you can literally get gold on every single mission.
The campaign is riddled with bugs as well. Somehow there are hit detection issues in single-player especially with melee. I've seen models despawn and respawn a couple of times and even softlocked myself as well. There are a lot of triggers you have to hit in the campaign for the game to register as progression, like in the South China Sea mission when you drive your boat back to your base ship, you can't chase down your base ship unless you shoot a distant helicopter and then the ship will stop and then you can progress. The points system may sometimes not register points under some circumstances. The only good thing about the campaign is that the Chinese voice acting isn't god awful which isn't really hard to do.
