I'm impulsive.
There were two people I wanted to avoid, I wasn't happy in my job and I was slightly bored with life, so I moved from well-paid employment, a home, friends and family in Australia to a local wage, volunteer job in Papua New Guinea for 18 months.
I try not to regret decisions, but this one was particularly half-baked. And there are some aspects of this decision which have had long-term negative consequences for me.
Only one person tried to talk me out of this decision, and he was one person I was trying to avoid (although I never admitted this to him or to anyone else before).
Coincidentally, and sadly, the two people I tried to avoid are both now dead, both dying at age 40....
Life is fleeting and crazy.
