#WritersCoffeeClub Dream sequences

I've always used them and generally enjoy them, when they aren't too obviously hitting me over the head with abstract imagery. Then again, my favorite hobby is napping, so I suppose that tells you enough about how I view things. I'm also a fan of magical reality, dreams fit perfectly within the sense of altered reality.
For Far North in particular, I use both short dream sequences and flashbacks. Mostly as a way to show what is subconsciously going on in a character's emotions.
Again, they're just a tool. I've been accused of the "and it was all just a dream" trope before in other writing, but I still stand by the usage. For me, dreams have a lingering effect that can absolutely make or break my day, and I write them from that understanding. If you don't like dreams or dreaming or dreamy reality, my work probably isn't for you.
